There are many sites to see and many things to do in Alicante. This is a city located in the south-east of Spain along the fabulous Costa Blanca (White Coast), which has hundreds of kilometres of coastline.
That is one of the main reasons hundreds of thousands of tourist visit this place every year. There are also other Alicante tourist attractions.

So let’s start with one of the major Alicante attractions- the beaches. The south most beach is El Saladar – Urbanova Beach, this is a beach that is not so urban and is only 5 kilometres from the city centre. It has fine gold sand, perfect for strolling since it’s over 1.5 kilometres long. There is also an area exclusive for nudist as well a play area for elderly people. Towards the north-west is the most popular beach in Alicante, San Juan Beach. The sand is fine and the beach area is dotted with restaurants and beach bars. A golf course is nearby. Various hotels are near the area. These are but two of the beaches in Alicante.
Around 11 nautical miles from the shore is Tabarca Island, which is actually a series of islets aside from Tabarca. It used to be the refuge of Berber pirates and in the 18th century was ordered fortified by King Carlos III. The island waters have rich biodiversity and are an official Mediterranean Marine Reserve.
The festivals are one of the many other attractions. Alicante has lively festivals like Carnival held either in February or March. There is the Moors and Christian Festivals; held on various dates. This is the most important festivals in the Province. There are other festivals as well including Holy Week.
Of course a vacation in Alicante is not complete without savouring its delicious Mediterranean food which is influenced by the many cultures that have inhabited the area. Rice is a dominate feature in the cuisine. Sea fish is of course widely available and the many dishes made out of it. There is also great wine coming for the area such as el Fondillón a world renowned wine.
One must visit of attractions in Alicante is the Santa Bárbara Castle perched 116 meters high on Mount Benacantil. You have a great view of the city and the sea from there; it is also one of the largest medieval fortresses in all of Spain. Other monuments to see include the Santa Maria Basilica the city’s oldest church. These are just some of various Alicante historic attractions to see.
For the golf lovers out there, the city has two 18 hole golf courses located in the city proper. There are many more golf courses in the surrounding area. Due to the weather there are other sports you can enjoy year round like sailing, windsurfing, surfing, and jet skiing. The city also has four sailing clubs.
Shopping is another gratifying activity you can do in Alicante. The city has a vibrant night life as well.
